Eligible Devices 

All Apple trade-ins are conditional and based on the type of device you’re trading in - like its age, condition and configuration. They currently accept the following devices, though the list is subject to change without notice:

• iPhones: Apple accepts conditional trade-ins across a wide range of iPhone models, from older devices like the iPhone 8 and iPhone X up through the latest iPhone 16 series, including the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. • iPads: Apple accepts possible trade-ins for your iPad^(R), iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad Pro.

Payment Options 

When you participate in Apple’s trade-in program, you have two payment options - gift card or store credit:

• Apple gift card: If you want to save your Apple credit for the future - or if you’re trading online - Apple will give you an Apple gift card in exchange for your unwanted device. Apple sends gift cards via mail post-inspection. Note that your trade-in device must be received within 14 days of when you receive your new device.
• Account credit: If you’re trading your product in-store, you can have your payment credited toward your in-store purchase. This is a good option for anyone looking to upgrade quickly.

Apple Trade In does not pay cash under any circumstances. Every payout comes in the form of store credit, a gift card, or a deduction toward a new buy. If you’re hoping to walk away with money in hand, then you’ll need to seek a third-party option instead. Additionally, if your device has damage - like a cracked screen, broken parts, or won’t power on - Apple may assign it a $0 trade-in value and offer to recycle it for free instead of giving you any credit.

Preparation Requirements

Apple requests that you reset all devices and disable “Find My iPhone” before trading them in. If trading online, they will send you instructions for backing up your data and resetting, and your trade-in device has to be received within 14 days of receiving your new device. If you’re in the Apple Store, a representative can talk you through the process. If you’re switching to a new Apple device, transferring your data is easy if you use iCloud^(R) or Time Machine^(R) storage. Transferring data between an Apple and non-Apple device will need outside cloud storage or an external storage device.

Guidelines and Conditions 

Apple Trade In values are conditional. When you start the process online, you fill out a questionnaire about your device’s status and condition. Apple will then give you an estimated trade-in value but will not pay you until they receive the device, look at it, and confirm it matches your reported condition.

If the device does not match but is still eligible for trade-in, they will send you a new updated offer that you can accept or deny.
